Professional Practice & Education

This white-walled studio offers a peaceful, blank space in which to test out ideas, document installation, experiment and showcase work. It is ideal for photographing work in an exhibition format to be sent out to galleries.

To enhance the profiles and skills of practising artists in the region, we offer courses aimed at upgrading skills and techniques , with an emphasis on experimenting freely and developing professionally. All courses are open to arts practitioners across a range of experiences.

We offer:
• drawing and painting classes focussing on developing technical skills and artistic sensitivity
• taster classes in a range of experimental forms both art and craft
• talks by established artists and curators about their work
• professional practice sessions including compiling a portfolio and CV, artwork critiques and organising an exhibition.

The emphasis in this programme of artists'  and curators' talks springs from a self-interested wish to engage with other art professionals, creating opportunities in which other artists can share.  The programme also aims to continuously encourage contact between artists regionally, nationally and internationally.

About Us

The Queen of Hungary was a gallery housed in three rooms of a splendid medieval building, and was run by Stephanie Douet and Dominique Rey between 2001- 4. Their ambitious programme of experimental, site-specific work gained a reputation for the uncompromisingly high standard of work exhibited, and the opportunities for free experiment offered to contemporary artists.

The Project Space has evolved out of this collaboration between two practising artists, now working from the same studio complex with the third partner, painter Chloe Mandy.  When the chance came to take on the neighbouring studio, they grabbed the opportunity for their own space for experimental practice, as well as developing a centre for artists' talks, meetings with curators, and classes.

The team is open to suggestions for classes, events and exhibition ideas from artists and welcomes involvement in expanding the range and ambition of the programme.

The Project Space is organised by Stephanie Douet,

Dominique Rey and Chloe Mandy.
